Downloads: Video Solutions of BD Games

Firefly Rockford

Here you find my solution recordings of some famous Boulder Dash games. This means, sit back and enjoy a complete video walkthrough of all the caves/intermissions!

Boulder Dash I (part 1 & 2)

Boulder Dash II (part 1 & 2)

Boulder Dash III (part 1 & 2)

Video files of BD 1 & 2:

The solutions have been created using the recording feature of WinVICE. With this feature you can make so called history files of games, and watch them afterwards. In this way many solutions of C64 games are recorded, and made available for download at C64-Longplays. At this great site the solutions are available as Longplay (Windows video file: *.avi). Also my recordings of Boulder Dash I and II have been converted to a Longplay. Below you find direct links.

You need WinRAR to extract these files, and some media player to watch the videos. I wish to say thanks to Monty Mole (the author of the C64-Longplays website) for converting my VICE recordings to video files.

WinVICE recordings:

The following Boulder Dash solutions are available as WinVice history files. The solutions of Boulder Dash I and II were updated on 18-02-2007 and are better than the original ones! Also note that the above longplays of BDI and II have been made from the corresponding history files.

In order to watch these history-files, you'll need the indicated version from VICE for Windows. Do not use any other version, since errors will almost certainly occur! I'll give some instructions below about how to view the recordings using WinVICE.

In addition I've recorded solutions to some hard caves from higher levels of Boulder Dash I:

Now for the instructions:

  •  Download a solution file, e.g. "bdash01_winvice119.zip", and extract the two zipped files "bdash01_winvice119_start.vsf" and "bdash01_winvice119_end.vsf" into one folder, e.g. "BoulderDash01", using Winzip (or other).
  •  Start the indicated version from WinVICE, in this case WinVICE 1.19.
  •  Choose "Snapshot" - "Select history files/directory". Search for the start-file, here "bdash01_winvice119_start.vsf", select this file and click SAVE. In the next window, select the end-file "bdash01_winvice119_end.vsf" and click SAVE.
  •  Choose "Snapshot" - "Start/stop playback history". Happy watching!
