No news from me, but an idea: cirix, would it be possible to put music into the game? I mean music that the player hears while playing, some background music. I think this would be really nice!

I've made a Boulder Dash 3 graphics theme for GDash. Just put it in /usr/local/share/gdash or specify the directory where GDash can find it. It's not fully finished but ready to go for playing Boulder Dash 3 with original graphics!

Hi, one question: Of course you can change the direction of gravity, but is it actually possible to switch the gravity completely off? I've got an idea for a cave taking place in outer space ;)

I really wonder if there will be a new version anytime soon? This project seems almost like dead to me. I hope there will be a sign of live in near future...

Good question. Haven't heard from cirix for a long time, either. But in any case, it's a GREAT GREAT GREAT BD clone!!

That's not fully true - it's THE best clone till now! I consider GDash better than the original game! :)

There is really only one issue I found with GDash, and it's a minor one. When you collect enough diamonds to open the outbox the flash isn't a bright white flash as you see on the original boulderdash, but rather it's a yellowish/grayish dull flash that doesn't seem right. I think this one would be a very easy one to fix. I would think that changing the cave background & border color to white (RGB 255,255,255) for a few milliseconds and then back to it's original background & border color would do the trick.

Well, I found out that the reason for the less-than-smooth scrolling was because I was using a crappy 59Hz LCD monitor. I tested it on one of those newish 100Hz LED monitors and set it to 100Hz in Windows and let me tell you the scrolling was as smooth as butter! So no problem there. Because of that I don't worry about true fullscreen. By the way my LCD monitor has a 75Hz refresh rate on lower resolutions so I just chose the lower resolutions and it was also very smooth, although not quite as smooth as it was on the 100Hz LED monitor

That's really a very small issue... ;) I hope that development of GDash will continue some time. Nevertheless I tried to reach cirix several times this year but I didn't get any answer. I hope he is all right!?

I do not know if this is allowed by the autor (and I can not ask as he does not reply) but I would like to mention that I have a slightly newer version than available on this website (20100605). I'm compiled it on MacOS X as it is very similar to Linux. But I'm looking for someone who could compile it for me for Windows as I intend to use it on my Arcade Cabinet - and there is a Win PC in it...

If he has supplied the source code I'm sure he wouldn't have any problems with you distributing the code "as is" as long as nobody sells it or otherwise profits from it or uses it in a commercial context.

I use OSX and I would love an OSX port of GDash :)

OMG, you have an Arcade Cabinet, that is so cool ! :D
Please tell me more, how did you get it, did you buy an used Cabinet and put in a PC yourself ?
Did you also put in another monitor ?

It is my dream to have an Arcade Cabinet one day (also with a PC),
but I haven't decide whether I should build one or buy-and-rebuild or something.

Some years ago I made a little video of my Arcade Cabinet:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp2-3BlofCc

In the mean time I also included a trackball for mouse based games. Maybe I'll make a new video in near future. Let's see...

If you have enough money you could always buy a complete arcade cabinet machine with PC included (about 4000$ or so for a very good machine). Or you can simply buy a used universal cabinet (or dedicated if you like) for maybe 100$ and use it to build you own machine with that. A good place for such things is always http://community.arcadeinfo.de/ (German forum), additional parts for an arcade machine are available at http://www.ultimarc.com/.

SDash is very nice at my arcade cabinet! :)

Simply use the instructions on the second page of this thread to build your own.

Best thing is to install MacPorts first (macports.org). And install XQuartz (http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki). After that just start terminal and type:
1) sudo port install gtk2
2) sudo port install libsdl
3) sudo port install libsdl_image
4) sudo port install libsdl_mixer
5) sudo port install libvorbis
6) sudo port install libogg

Each step takes a while until it's installed (gtk2 takes the most time).

Unpack the source of GDash (the .tar.gz file), type in terminal "cd " (with a space at the end) and drag-and-drop the folder of GDash on the terminal window. Now you should see the full path. Press return.

Then type
./configure
when it's finished (and no errors occured) type
make
and if that also finished without errors type
sudo make install

Now you can find the game in /usr/local/bin called gdash.

Unfortunately it seems I can't compile on OSX. I don't want to download another 1GB+ of developer tools. I will have to wait until I get back home and if I can find my OSX install disc, it should be somewhere, I've got the original Leopard install set and I might be able to find the XCode on there that works on my system, unfortunately the XCode on the Apple site is for the Lion OSX and NOT the Leopard OSX - couldn't find that anywhere. Damn, it must be frustrating blowing nearly all your monthly download quota only to find it doesn't run on your system

I'm trying to compile this in Windows...boy am I having some fun.

I have no idea where to start...I know there is a windows binary, but I want to do some minor changes, and can't even find out what IDE/Compiler the windows port was created with. That would help.
