It's the sprite's y-size. Dr. Watson enlarged the sprites for the "Dr. Watson"-letters. BD1 doesn't touch that register, but uses sprites to hide doubled lines between the status bar and the cave display. Since the y-size isn't reset to normal, that bar appears with double height.

Then, I have an easier question: Which BD game on the C64 features an unpredictable random maze generator?

Way easier, apparently ;)

Trying to reanimate this thread, a counter- question: Do you (Logic) mean a real game in which such a maze actually occurs or just an engine which supports this?

A real game. There is one which has several caves plus a title screen making use of this feature. It was released 11-jul-2006.

OK, these were enough tips even for me ;-)

Alright. Let us try to find an answer to Rory's signature question:

Bill Gates or Rockford- who is richer?

Of course it would be a bit time- consuming to count all the treasures Rockford has already collected in his many many adventures. To make it easier we will take into account only the treasures he collected in the original games BD 1+2. Let's assume Rockford was still a bit lazy at that time and picked up just enough jewels to complete the games (all five difficulty levels). Let's assume furthermore that a jewel is worth 10 million US-$. Now, let's sum up and answer the question above! Who is richest in the world? (Bill Gates' capital is estimated to about 40 billion US-$ at the moment).

My Canon LS-80H calculator display isn't long enough to do this :(

40 billion = 40 000 million. 40 000 / 10 => 4000 diamonds. Bill Gates has collected 4000 diamonds :) Bd1 contains 20 caves and 5 difficulty levels. So does Bd2. 20*5=100. 100*2 = 200; 4000 diamonds/200 caves = 20. That means rockford has to collect 20 diamonds each cave to beat Bill Gates.

Let's check it out...
Edit: I fixed the values. Hope it's correct now!
Diamonds to collect in bd1
12,12,12,12,12,10,12,9,13,10,24,23,24,23,21,36,36,36,36,36,6,6,6,6,6,
4,5,6,7,8,4,6,7,8,8,15,20,25,25,25,10,15,20,20,20,16,16,16,16,16,75,75,
80,85,90,12,12,12,12,12,6,6,6,6,6,19,19,14,16,21,14,14,14,14,14,50,55,
60,70,80,30,35,40,42,45,15,20,20,25,30,12,15,15,15,12,6,6,6,6,6;
=> 2147 diamonds (5 difficulty levels)

Diamonds to collect in bd2:
10,10,10,20,20,75,80,85,90,95,16,12,18,15,15,50,52,54,56,58,1,1,1,1,1,
5,8,10,10,10,30,40,32,32,42,8,14,15,15,12,30,40,50,60,70,6,6,6,6,6,75,
75,75,75,75,18,27,36,45,54,21,24,19,23,27,35,36,33,37,34,2,2,2,2,2,1,
20,20,40,50,21,21,21,21,21,36,36,36,36,36,20,15,17,15,20,1,1,1,1,1;
=> 2771 diamonds (5 difficulty levels)

2147+2771 = 4918 diamonds. Rockford has collected 4918 diamonds.

What a waste of time to calculate this :wink:
I hope that's correct.

You get 50% for this solution, but there are still some mistakes. Most of the level 5 diamonds are wrong (you have assumed that l5 and 4 always have the same amount of needed diamonds??!), and there's another, principal mistake...

Completing the game can be accomplished without solving the intermissions. Thus I think, any diamond count can be excluded in intermissions, since he was too lazy to collect those unneeded ones.

I made a mistake in my source code when extracting the values for the required diamonds from the bdcff.
Don't expect that I calculate all the values with a pocket calculator.
1937+2721=4658 (without intermissions).

OK, 75% of the solution goes to subotai and 25% to logic.

Sorry for the a bit boring question ;-)

Next one, subotai!

Does this mean I have to come up with a new signature? I've been too busy for too long and can't think creatively... :(
