BD Musicians...

Post by RTADash »

@Sendy, Arno wants us to continue our music topic here.

For those viewers who haven't read the other topic, here's a recap:
RTADash wrote:If you're interested, I'm currently arranging a bunch of melodic etudes for solo tuba (but I can transpose them easily for any other instrument). In addition to that I'm working on a variety of pieces for clarinet/piano or tuba/piano.

BTW, I know most of this post has been off topic, but I want I mention that my tuba has been sitting by the front door lately so it can make a run for it when I approach!
Sendy wrote:Ooh, I'm a musician, too. I make electronic music. Check out www.myspace.com/absurdistlover
When I play/design Boulderdash it's usually when I should be making music.
RTADash wrote:Bravo! Molto impresivo! :D

Did you create all that with an synthesizer or a music editing program?(Finale and Sibelius are the two most well-known)

I will write and arrange "formal" detailed music using finale, but if I just want to play something off the wall I'll improvise at the piano (I play something different each time and rarely write down the pieces I come up with 8) ).

My main instruments are tuba, recorder (5 sizes), piano, clarinet, and alto sax - in that order. I have a trumpet, but can't play it much...

I use Cubase and software synthesizers, samplers, and effects filters etc to create the music, and use a MIDI keyboard to input and play notes into the computer.

I used to use a hardware sampler (AKAI S3000XL) controlled by an old Atari computer - some musicians still swear by it :D . However I prefer the control of being able to render the sounds on the computer and then edit them further on the waveform level. In effect you find yourself playing with sound as an instrument in it's own right, which is really interesting and avant-garde. :)

Thanks for listening to my songs :)

By the way, I've been using a SID emulator to provide some of the instrumentation in a lot of my new songs. I'll point to them when I eventually upload them to the web. In particular I love the C64 drum sounds - so oldskool and funky 8)

Wow, I'd probably get lost in all that technology! The most advanced thing I have is a MIDI cable, which I mainly use for single-line entry (as of now), just because it's a little faster. Other than that, I use Finale 2006 and enter most of music manually, and then I let the computer play it back and edit as needed.

I will send you some of my scores and/or audio files once I figure out the best form to send them in. :? (Probably .jpg scores and .mp3 audio, but I may find something better for the scores)
