Arno about Boulder Dash 03 on 9 Jan 2011

Boulder Dash 3 from American Action is the third episode in the official BD series for the Commodore 64.

This game uses the engine from BD1 and therefore some feature (phisics, music, title screen) are the similar or identical to those of BD1. But the graphics have changed: in BD3 we enjoy a different graphics set: the Space graphics.

The caves of BD3 were not that creative i.m.o., although a few of them have nice ideas. H, for instance, is the first cave that uses 3 magic walls stacked. Another interesting fact is that both cave O and intermission 1 actually exploit a bug that was present in the BD1 engine: When a boulder falls into a magic wall, the cavescan restarts, which has as side effect that amoeba below the magic wall turns into diamonds immediately.

Arno about Boulder Dash 02 - Rockford's Revenge on 9 Jan 2011

The second episode in the BD history, and another masterpiece from Peter Liepa!

In this game two elements were new: the slime (cave E, M) and growing wall (cave O). Also the music and the title screen has changed w.r.t. the first BD episode.

I found the caves of BD2 a bit harder than those of BD1, especially L, O and P.

The game it all started with.... To me this is best computer game ever created!!!

I have played all these cave uncountably many times, and I know them all by heart! This game has been the main source of inspiration for me (and many others as well) to design my own levels, and creating BD related tools and websites.

Visit my site for a full review of all the individual caves and intermissions.
